What this Blog is...

This seems like a good idea...

That's usually how my ideas start.

I've decided to Blog the holiday that Justine and I are going on. On Sunday we fly out of Oz for 5 weeks in Europe. It is, ostensibly, the first REAL holiday I've been on, ie. it isn't for work, part of a tour, for a wedding, or a family vacation. We'll be spending a week in London, followed by 3 weeks traversing middle Europe, then finishing with another week in London. If you know Justine and I, this trip could be accurately described as "taking the argument on tour."

That's the background. But it still begs the question, why am I going to Blog it?

I'll start with what I DON'T want this blog to be. My intention, and I'll try my best to not succumb to laziness, is not to make this a simple recounting of our movements. "Today we went here. It was pretty and stuff. We stayed in a hotel. It smelt. Here is a photo of the nearest McDonalds." Something like that. I couldn't imagine anything more boring. Of course, if you are taking your time out to read this you are probably already hard up for entertainment and that may be all you are looking for. If so, sorry. Whilst there is a certain satisfaction in the writing of a charming turn of phrase inspired by a sunset descending through the alps, and I'm sure my skills of bull-shitting are up to that very task, there are other ways to smoke the pig.

My intention is for this to be a reflection. I want to clarify my thoughts as we travel. Topics will probably include politics, musical theatre, bacon, parenthood, families, pork knuckle, history, driving, friendships, more bacon, economics, studying, pork, literature, language and anything else that takes my fancy. I'll probably also talk about bacon. Fair warning.

To accompany these ramblings of ineptitude, Justine will add her photographic skills. Picture value being equal to, or greater than, 1000 words. Or so I'm told. She may also write stuff. Who knows really. She's an enigma. She wants to edit my posts before I post them, which is kind of funny, especially since she doesn't know how to work Blogger... So good luck with that babe.

So there you go. My mission: to boldly bore the internet with my innermost thoughts for 5 weeks. Also, Qantas is really cool and stuff. They are an awesome airline that I fly all the time, what with my Qantas club and everything. I can't wait for the experience. Apparently I'm the reason they fly and stuff. I wonder if they'll give us an upgrade? (It's worth a try I guess.)

I'll be linking people to this on Facebook. Feel free to pass it onto other people you know that I know and stuff.

Try not to miss us too much...
